Boyle's law and atmospheric pressure?

A water column of 25.0 cm is supported in a tube during an experiment, What would be the equivalent height of a column of mercury if mercury was used instead of water? The density of mercury is 13.6 g/cm3 And why is atmospheric pressure added to a measured column to calculate actual pressure in a flask? Please help!!
